Toucan Diversity Training Ltd is a registered Data Controller (Registration Number  ZA340673).

Toucan Diversity Training (“we”) try to meet the highest standards when collecting and using personal information in accordance with the current data protection law.

We promise with this privacy policy to respect any personal data you share with us, or that we get from other organisations and keep it safe. We aim to be clear when we collect your data and not do anything you wouldn’t reasonably expect.

Developing a better understanding of our supporters through their personal data allows us to make better decisions, measure social impact and fundraise more efficiently. Ultimately, it helps us to reach our goal of enabling a social change in attitudes towards disabled people. We have made improvements to this policy to make it more understandable to supporters of Toucan Diversity.

Since May 2018, we moved to an ‘opt-in only’ communication policy. This means that we will only send marketing communications to those that have explicitly stated that they are happy for us to do so via their preferred channel(s) (email or social media). Therefore if you would like to be added onto our mailing list, please follow the link further on.

Currently Toucan Diversity will not have a designated Data Protection Officer as personal data is only processed on a small scale. If this changes an independent designated Data Protection Officer will be utilized.


Please also note that this privacy policy covers only Toucan Diversity’s website only. Other websites linked to or from this site are not covered by this policy.


What personal data could we hold about you?

You may be asked for personal data if you want to take advantage of specific services we offer, such as receiving volunteer briefings and blog updates, joining email lists and networks or taking part in training, events, conferences and seminars etc.

We will use the personal information you provide to administer our relationship with you and deliver the services you have told us you wish to use or to send you information that you have requested. We may also offer you the opportunity to receive additional information about our activities or those of our volunteers, supporters, service providers and partners. Information that you supply will be treated in confidence and in accordance with the principles of the GDPR.


The types of personal data we hold on you might include:

  • Your full name
  • Your address
  • Your volunteer role or job title
  • The name and address of an organisation you work for or are associated with
  • Your organisation or personal email address (dependent on your preference)
  • Your organisation or personal telephone number (dependent on your preference)
  • We may also store brief notes about where you may have worked before, any specific preferences you have told us about and your main areas of expertise (e.g. research, policy).

This information is kept as accurate as possible – all of our staff take responsibility for keeping this database up to date and have an awareness of data protection.

We store your personal data just for the intended purpose (e.g. we won’t sign you up to every mailing list we run unless you ask us to), and we take steps to collect only the minimum personal data necessary, that it’s accurate, and kept for only as long as necessary, after which it is deleted from our database.

We will amend your record when you tell us that your details have changed. If you leave an organisation and would like us to delete your record, we’ll do it straight away if you tell us. Otherwise we’ll keep it on file for 3 years, after which, if we still haven’t heard from you in another capacity, we’ll delete it on your behalf.


Social Media

Toucan Diversity uses a range of social media services to publicise our training, fundraising and social impact studies from interested parties including through direct messages, which are private, and through posts which are public to other social media users.

The information people provide via social media is subject to the social media service providers’ privacy notices and policies.

Visitors to Our Website 

When you visit our website we will collect the following information automatically:

  • the domain name (if available) and IP address from which you accessed our site
  • the date and time you visited
  • the pages you viewed
  • the type of browser and operating system you used

We do this to find out things such as the number of visitors to the various parts of the site which helps us to improve our website service. This information is only processed in a way which does not identify anyone.

We use a third-party service, Google Analytics, to collect this information. We do not make, and do not allow Google to make, any attempt to find out the identities of those visiting our website.
